The Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center is a modern, 25 bed licensed acute care hospital built in 1972 at a cost of $1.5 million. Designed as a multiphasic unit, the Medical Center also has a newly expanded long-term care facility known as Heritage Hall, with 24-hour nursing services, social, and activity departments. Additionally, for those not needing nursing care, the Medical Center has a 12 bed Assisted Living Center that provides assistance on a 24-hour basis, plus all meals. Twenty special apartment units are available to provide "condominium" style living with access to emergency care through a nurse-call system built into each of the apartments.

The hospital is staffed by seven board certified family practitioners. Four are officed within the Medical Center complex, while the other three are affiliated with a clinic located in downtown Broken Bow. The University of Nebraska Medical Center and other Nebraska healthcare training centers use Broken Bow as a training site for physicians, physicians assistants, lab technicians, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, physical therapy students and other medical professionals.

Specialists in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ear, Nose and Throat, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Urology, Podiatry, Cardiology, and Pulmonology provide specialty clinics at the Medical Center.

The Home Health Agency, a department of the Medical Center, provides intermittent home care for patients needing nursing, aide care, physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy. They make patient visits throughout Custer County and the surrounding area. Hospice services are offered in Custer County through the Medical Center to those with terminal illness. Its focus is on providing professional and volunteer support to the patient and family through this difficult time. All units of the Medical Center are fully licensed and inspected by the State Health and Social Services Agencies.
